Raised on a diet of Sachin Tendulkar’s straight drives, Aditya fell in love with the game after watching Sachin’s Desert Storm masterclass in 1998. An interesting and worthwhile read, Faf telling his story from childhood to 2021 with all the details in a very personal fashion. Given that he was a part of dominant teams since his school days featuring future internationals such as AB de Villiers, Neil Wagner, Kruger van Wyk, Heino Kuhn, and Jacques Rudolph, where they lost two games in three years, it must have been challenging for Du Plessis to come to terms with the long transition that the Proteas faced under his leadership. He also takes you behind the scenes into the locker room and explains what happened during some of the most controversial moments in cricket during his career, from Zipgate, Mintgate, Sandpapergate and the 2015 World Cup Semi Final selection controversy.

Domingo’s empathetic approach to coaching with the phrase “everybody needs love” stuck with Du Plessis and he uses it often throughout the book.

Throughout the book, Du Plessis insists that South African teams are at their strongest when leaders pay attention to soft skills in conjunction with hard skills. Very few leaders understand the importance of both hard and soft skills and how getting both of them firing at the same time can be a game changer.

He reflects on how influential leaders, such as Gary Kirsten, Stephen Fleming, Doc Moosajee, Graeme Smith, A. The only negative side to the book is that it does, especially closer to the end become slightly self righteous but I guess that's what any good Biography is.

Du Plessis was also grateful for his mother’s tenderness and sensitivity that balanced his father’s strict and uncompromising approach to raising him. He describes his relationship with AB de Villiers and other players in detail as well, in a very raw and honest way. AB opened the batting with Herschelle Gibbs, so there is every chance that neither of our openers slept much the night before, but I can only testify for AB. The best chapter for me though was the one about the swing of a cricket ball, both normal and reverse swing and the science behind it and what teams to to create this to happen, both legal and illegal.
